Corfu is an Island that hangs off the boot of Italy and the west coast of the mainland Greece. It was over 50 years ago that Corfu started to receive its first tourists in the 1960’s. Corfu was one of the first Greek islands to benefit from mass tourism and has flourished ever since receiving thousands of tourists from all over the world every year.
Corfu simply has so many things to enjoy from beautiful beaches, shopping in the old town, day tours and a whole lot more. Corfu has so much history to explore, an example is Paleokastritsa Monastery. This historic location is situated on a hill just above Paleokastritsa beach on the northern western side of Corfu and is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. When you’re at the monastery you will also get the chance to see amazing views of the oceans and surrounding sea outside the site as shown below.
When you go into Paleokastritsa Monastery you will see many displays of history from holy scriptures and where the monks live. A photo of a monk who lives at the monastery is shown below along with photos of the monastery itself.
Paleokastritsa Monastery was first built back in 1228, so you can imagine there is a lot of interesting information to learn and is the ideal place to visit for those who love their history of which all can be seen in a dedicated museum, here are a few photos of people enjoying their time at the museum.
