If you are coming for a holiday on Corfu then there are a number of great places to visit if you like your history. Here we are going to take a look at The Achilleion, a palace villa that was built in the eighteenth century over 100 years ago in 1890.
The palace is situated 10 kilometres to the southwest of Corfu Town, it was built for royalty and was a summer getaway for Empress Elisabeth of Austria who ruled from 1837 to 1898. The palace was not just a getaway but also a dedication to Elisabeth’s son Price Rudolf who died in 1889.
Empress Elisabeth was a great lover of beauty so it is no wonder that she was attracted to the island of Corfu with its lush greenery and beautiful scenic beaches. Inside the palace you will be able to see the extravagance of the building and architecture and its theme in Greek mythology.
The palace is now a serving museum and is open to tourists visiting the island. If you are a keen lover of architecture and history then this will be a perfect place for you to explore and spend some time at.
